Humane Society of Wicomico County Postpones Fundraiser for a Good Reason - because they hardly have any dogs to participate.

SALISBURY, Md. - The Humane Society of Wicomico County has a big problem. The executive director says they have to postpone their fundraiser scheduled for this Saturday. But, that 'big problem' is a good one to have.   

We have a really good reason for postponing it,: Kim Nock is the executive director of the Humane Society of Wicomico County says. The animal shelters first fashion show, slated for Feb. 22, will now be held in April because they hardly have any dogs to participate. Many have now found their new homes. Nock says that their adoption rates are high right now, which she credits to a number of things like social media, low cost spay and neuter clinics for cats and dogs, and foster families. She also adds that their volunteers have played a big role. Steve Franklin, who has been volunteering for the shelter over the last several years, says fundraisers like this one help dogs find their forever families. Read More... Good Job Derrick Nnad! Update

   Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnad was not allowed to own a pet as a kid so he is loving what he did! Feb 7, 2020 - Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi vowed to pay the adoption fees for more than 100 dogs if his team won the Super Bowl.   

   Now, thanks to his generosity, every kennel at one of KC Pet Projects animal shelters is empty. "Because of Derrick Nnadis generous sponsorship - And when the Chiefs made the Super Bowl, Nnadi decided he would pay for every dogs adoption fee, if his team won. That ended up being 109 dogs at an average adoption fee of $150.   

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray chipped in, too: She offered a free supply of pet food for a whole year for every dog that Nnadi paid for, provided through her dog food line.  

There are still some adoptable dogs available at the non-profits other locations, but they may not be available for long if Nnadi decides to foot their adoption fee, too. Watch The Show
